![]() Not many of us in here have many kids that stop by for the
traditional “Trick or Treating”, but it’s always fun to decorate the house a
little for when friends stop by for drinks. Halloween is a holiday that can
really shine, but it needs a “less is more” aesthetic. Vern Yip, of HGTV’s
“Deserving Design” said, “The moment you tack a jack-lantern on your wall,
you’ve crossed the line”. For adults he recommends staying away from the
traditional Halloween orange and going with an unexpected shade of that color
for something more interesting. Yip says to look for a more sophisticated
orange with brown undertones. He also recommends finding a throw or pillar
candle similar to that color, which may be enough to set a nice tone. Look for flower arrangements in an array of orange colors and don’t worry about if they match. Yip said, “You can mix several shades of orange into one space and it’ll work beautifully”. Look to the outside of your home when it comes to centerpieces like combining pumpkins with gingko leaves on a table. Decorating with tree branches or driftwood just gives your whole home a natural and Halloween-y type of atmosphere, while maintaining style. Placing spiders crawling up a window or a plastic bug on a candle, also create that creepy setting for a fun night of “All Hallows’ Eve”. Now, I know that we have a lot of talented people out there, so if you have any ideas that you would like to share with everyone, please feel free to post comments below.
